About Us

The name Soroptimist means “best for women”, which is what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimist are women at their best working to help other women to be their best.

Soroptimist is an international women’s organization working to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. The Rockwall club was first chartered in 1984 by 32 women; several are still actively involved. Members attend monthly business meetings and regularly volunteer their time to give back to the community through service projects, including The Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County, STARS, International Goodwill, and Dream it, Be it.

Our History

Soroptimist International was founded in 1921 in California and grew to include clubs in 120 countries and territories. Soroptimist International is one of the few women’s organizations to hold a seat at the United Nations. For more information on Soroptimist International please click here (link to SI page)

Soroptimist International of Rockwall was chartered on May 19, 1984.

A 1984 club service project led to the donation of what is now called the “Soroptimist House.” The entire community came together by donating the house, the funds to relocate it, and the land where it now resides. Throughout its history the House has been home to many community outreach organizations.

Since our inception, the community has supported our fundraising efforts. Past fundraisers have included Women of Distinction, Rockwall Idol, Lassos and Lace, and the Rockwall Country Fair. Our most recent fundraisers are Brunch & Bunco and Black & White Casino Night.

Our history demonstrates the rewards and satisfaction of long-lasting friendships through service to the community.
